Local Illustrator Announces Children’s Book Publishing Deal

First Four Books to Release Spring 2017

ATLANTA, GA, May 24, 2016 – Butterpup & friends™ is pleased to announce it has accepted a publishing contract for the children’s book series with Canadian publishing house Promontory Press. The books, created by Atlanta-based husband-wife team Miles Davis and Merissa Davis, revolve around the central character Butterpup, a whimsical puppy with butterfly wings, and are set to release in Spring of 2017.

In the first book, we learn how the title character Butterpup meets a little girl named Allie, who discovers the pint-sized puppy while catching butterflies in Grandma’s backyard. Similar to the character dynamics of classic favorite Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin, Butterpup and Allie become best friends, sharing adventures with each other and the rest of the Backyard Buddies, secondary characters including a friendly fruit bat, diva-inspired Kooka bird, mischief-seeking chipmunk, not-so-funny clown fish and narcoleptic lawn gnome.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled,” remarks Miles Davis, Atlanta illustrator and fine artist. “This project has been a work in progress since 2012. To realize that our books will be on the shelves of local and national bookstores is a rewarding experience and validates our efforts. We can’t wait to deliver quality stories and fantastic illustrations that kids and parents alike will enjoy.”

Most recognized for his fine art brand Massive Burn Studios, Miles Davis takes a departure from his pop-surrealistic paintings with these fun, kid-centric characters. “I realized that much of my current client base was getting older and starting families.  With Butterpup, I get to engage an audience on a different creative level, explore another aspect of my imagination, and showcase some diversity in my artistic skill set.”

Although the four stories are set to release in 2017, a limited number of first edition copies of the initial book “Butterpup Meets Allie,” along with a selection of handcrafted character-based art, gifts, and apparel are available for purchase online at www.butterpupandfriends.com and at a few area boutiques. The brand will also be on exhibit during the Roswell Cultural Arts Center’s 2016 Summer Puppet Series and will host a selection of book readings during the two-month festival in June and July. In addition, the Arts Center will hold a celebratory reception on Saturday, July 16 from 4 pm to 6 pm. This event is open to the public and will offer the opportunity to meet Miles and Merissa. More details on the reception can be found here.

The husband-wife duo are accepting inquiries regarding book readings and signings for the 2017 release. Inquiries should be directed to Merissa Davis at contact@butterpupandfriends.com.
